The Iimbovane project implemented a long term biodiversity monitoring programme in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. Starting in 2006 the project proposes to continue for 10 years. The project monitors ant assemblages from 33 sites to examine their diversity patterns over large spatial and temporal scales. Additionally, the programme aims to build capacity and knowledge in the field of invertebrate biodiversity amongst secondary school-level educators and learners by exposing learners to biodiversity sampling techniques. Learners assist scientists with collecting invertebrate and vegetation data by means of pitfalls and vegetation surveys.
